Mozia Island - Whitaker Museum

Mozia, an ancient Phoenician colony in Marsala's "Natural Reserve" of Stagnone, is also known as the island of San Pantaleo, which is part of an archipelago of 4 islands: Isola Grande, Schola, Santa Maria, and of course, Mozia.

In this area, it is possible to admire the archaeological excavations and the island's natural beauties which the island contains.  Archaeological finds can be found thanks to the walls that were created with the aim of defending the island.  It was until Dionysius, the Elder, besieged and destroyed the city, which forced its inhabitants to take refuge in Lilibeo (now Marsala).

On Mozia Island there is the Whitaker museum (The English nobleman who rediscovered Mozia).  The museum preserves the precious relics found there during excavations. One of the most important is the young man of Motya, a marble statue, also defined as "the statue of the mysteries" because its origins are unknown.

The island of Mozia can be reached by ferry.  When you arrive, you will need to pay a ticket for the entrance fee to access the island.
