Easter, Holy Week and its traditions.
The Easter period is one of the most significant and representative for the city of Lily. During the Holy Week in the period leading up to Holy Easter, on Holy Thursday and Good Friday in the city you can watch the 'Passion of Christ' performance and on the following day the 'Good Friday Procession'.
The Holy Thursday Procession in Marsala is the most animated and colourful. You will be immersed in an open-air theatre, through the streets of the historic centre, where you will be spectators of the most significant chapters of Christ's passion until his death. The 'living pictures' are acted by amateur actors from Marsala staged in the historical costumes of the first performances.
On Good Friday, at the end of the service celebrated in the Mother Church, the simulacrum of the Dead Christ and the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows are accompanied by the faithful and the confraternities in a silent walk through the streets of the city. The return takes place late at night at the Holy Mary's Sorrowful Sanctuary Ss. where the faithful, in absolute silence, enter to address personal prayers to her.
You will be able to feel the unity of a city locked in a single embrace.
